The course will include:
· Links to legislation in particular the Children Act 2004, Local Safeguarding Board 2006, National Minimum Standards, Data Protection Act, Early Years Foundation Stage, Every Child Matters and Common Assessment Framework
· Gaining an insight into appropriate local safeguarding procedures (understanding issues around consent and confidentiality)
· Raising awareness of the role of the First Response Team (vulnerable children)
· Discussing and identifying the different types of abuse
· Looking at support mechanisms for children
· Looking at relationships with parents in child protection cases
· How to maintain working practice in line with safeguarding policy (disclosures, referrals, record keeping and information sharing)
· Discussing the fact that child abuse occurs in all cultural and religious groupings, social classes, ages and educational backgrounds
· Information sharing
· Raising awareness around the issue of allegations against professionals working together
